Prairie Five Head Start
Public Annual ReportEnrollment: Prairie Five Head Start is
funded for 231 Federal children and 33 State children. In the 2007-2008
school year 21% of the total enrollment was children with
disabilities. Prairie Five Head Start serves children in five
counties. There are 20 classes in 14 communities and 2 child care
center partners.

Funding: Prairie Five is funded by Federal ($1,560,842),
State ($196,582) and USDA ($35,000) monies. Budget details and audit

Health Services: In the 2007-2008 school year, 100% of
enrolled children had up-to-date immunizations; 99.3% of enrolled child
had completed physicals; 90% of enrolled children completed dental
examinations.
Parent Involvement: During the 2007-2008 school year Prairie
Five Head Start had 707 parent and community volunteers who volunteered
a total of 12, 224 hours for an in-kind value of $132,195. 361 parents
and community members participated in Parent Committee and Policy
Council meetings 1028 hours for an in-kind value of $10,383.
Monitoring: Prairie Five Head Start completes an annual self
assessment. Prairie Five is also monitored every 3 years by the Federal
government, the State Department of Education, and the State Food and
Nutrition Service. On April 29 - May 1, 2008 the Department of
Education's monitor visited the program. Monitoring ensures that
Prairie Five Head Start is meeting all State and Federal requirements.
Child Assessment & Outcomes: Prairie Five Head Start uses the
Creative Curriculum and assessment tools. Assessments are completed 3
times during the year and outcomes are shared with parents. Program
