Prairie Five Head Start Public Annual Report

Funding:  Prairie Five will be funded in Fiscal Year 2012 with:

Federal $1,434,183:   Personnel & Fringe Benefits = 1,119,537 ~ Supplies (office & classroom, postage, photocopy) = 56,405  ~ Contracted Services (psychologist services,  nutrition consultant, payment for child care slots) = 69,931 ~ Other (telephone, advertising, auto expenses, registration fees, utilities, audit, medical services, disabilities services, staff travel, parent travel & activities, pupil transportation, building leases, insurance, food, curriculum fees, licenses, and equipment maintenance) = 164,289 ~ Training = 24,021

State $185,927:  Personnel & Fringe Benefits = 145,183 ~ Supplies (office & classroom, postage, photocopy) = 10,024 ~ Contracted Services (psychologist services,  nutrition consultant, payment for child care slots) = 9069 ~ Program Expenses (telephone, advertising, utilities, medical services, disabilities services,  parent travel & activities,  building leases,  food, curriculum fees and  licenses) = 21,103 ~ Travel/Transportation (auto expenses, staff travel,  and pupil transportation) = 4619 ~ Other (registration fees, audit,  insurance, auto license  and equipment maintenance) ~ Training = 3571.

and USDA $32,000 monies. 

 

Enrollment:  Prairie Five Head Start is funded for 231 Federal children and 30 State children.  The total number of children and families served in 2010-2011 was 274,  In the 2010-2011 school year  22% of the total enrollment was children with disabilities.  Prairie Five Head Start serves children in five counties.  There are 27 classes in 14 communities and 2 child care center partners.  The average monthly enrollment for 2010-2011 was 94%.  Over 90% of of eligible children in the five county area were served.  We had a waiting list of 30. 

Monitoring:  Prairie Five Head Start completes an annual self assessment.  Prairie Five is also monitored every 3 years by the Federal government,  the State Department of Education, and the State Food and Nutrition Service.   The Federal Review Team monitored our Head Start program in October 2008.  No non-compliances were found.  The Federal Review Team will monitor the program again in 2012.   State Food and Nutrition Service monitored our program in May 2009. Health Services:  In the 2010-2011 school year, 100% of enrolled children had up-to-date immunizations; 100% of enrolled children had completed physicals; 100% of enrolled children completed dental examinations.

Parent Involvement:  During the 2010-2011 school year Prairie Five Head Start had 532 parent and community volunteers who volunteered a total of 7669 hours for an in-kind value of $82,348.  150 parents and community members participated in Parent Committee and Policy Council meetings a total of 992 hours for an in-kind value of $17,856.  Prairie Five Head Start has an active Policy Council made up of parents and community members.  Highlight of parent activities was the annual "Rewards Trip" for involved parents and their children.

Child Assessment & Outcomes:  Prairie Five Head Start uses the Creative Curriculum and assessment tools.  Assessments are completed 3 times during the year and outcomes are shared with parents.  Our curriculum and assessment prepares children for Kindergarten.  Program outcome information is available upon request.
